Advertisements are Gnarly

The ad i chose was for Nike SB shoes and how they promote their products using pro skaters to endorse signature models amongst other things. The target audience for this ad is undeniably the skateboarding community but more specifically the younger generation of skaters due to the use of Paul Rodriguez as an endorsee/spokesman. For those who don't know, Paul Rodriguez or P.Rod for short is widely renouned as the top dog of modern skateboarding and is NOT to be screwed with. The tone of the ad conveys luxury (the white car) while retaining the spontaneity and rebelliousness (Paul using the car for something other than its purpose) that skateboarding has always encompassed. Compared to other ads this ad is very similar in the sense that it promotes a luxurious life and a degree of *bling* that modern pop culture is so familiar with.

  1. Fernando makes a good point in giving detail about how the ad is trying to get the audience to see the nike skaters products and he tell us that is specially for young generation, in whcih i agree. In his post fernando only needs to conect why nike uses luxury and skaters together and what they trying to convey. Not only to sell products, for me there is anoother meaning that nike is trying to convey with this ad.

  2. I believe that Fernando does an excellent job explaining how Nike is trying to grab young skaters' attention so they can get them to buy some of Nike’s products. I always liked the way how he states that they use the bling as a way to grab the younger generation’s attention because that is true. Kids nowadays seek for luxurious things, so they can show off to their friends.
